San Francisco Achievers Partnership

San Francisco AchieversWe’ve partnered with San Francisco Achievers (SFA) from 2021 to 2022. SFA is a non-profit that supports African-American young men in San Francisco Unified School District to lead and thrive in higher education and beyond by closing the opportunity gap. SFA does this through college scholarships, leadership training, and mentoring.   

In May 2022, SFA held its annual Awards Ceremony. 25 outstanding high school seniors were awarded scholarships to start their college journey!  These graduates will be enrolling at a wide variety of educational institutions across the United States.

Employees from The Myers-Briggs Company have supported SFA with two career panel workshops, scholarship applicant interviews, marketing support, financial donations, and awards ceremony decorating and set-up.

We also hired one of the SFA scholars, DeJohn Thompson, for a summer internship on our product team. Read more about his internship experience.

Purpose

Years ago, a mother and daughter had an audacious dream to change the world for the better. Their belief, that understanding yourself and others would provide a path to better lives for all, resonated with our founder, Dr. Black. He believed in the importance of a company’s purpose. And he was ahead of his time in his emphasis on the growing importance of a company’s approach to doing business.

The Company image will become much more important but this image will not depend simply on the quality of its products or services or whether its prices are lower, but on a whole complex of other factors as well, such as its treatment of employees, its vigor in minority hiring and promotion, its freedom from exploitation of undeveloped countries, its efforts to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution, its own ethical standards and its commitment to solving social problems.

We’re at a pivotal point for global climate change and reducing our carbon footprint and carbon offsetting are key initiatives for our company. To show our dedication to this initiative we have signed the NetZero by 2030 pledge as part of our commitment to B Lab’s Declaration of a Climate Emergency.

As part of our commitment to a low carbon future we are working hard on the digital transformation of our business. This includes encouraging customers to use electronic versions of our products, reducing paper use and shipping. We also source electricity from renewable sources, limit travel to essential needs, and work to offset carbon where we can.

As part our support for the B Corp climate justice movement we are actively engaging in projects that address climate injustice, acknowledging that those areas and nations most negatively impacted by climate change are the least able to influence and change the impacts of the global crisis. We are actively seeking out verified carbon offsetting projects which support vulnerable communities to improve livelihoods and the local environment.

Community Giving

Giving back to the community has been a priority of The Myers-Briggs Company since 1956. The company actively supports the communities in which its employees live and work by budgeting a percentage of earnings to contribute to various causes and organizations.

Consistent with its corporate vision, The Myers-Briggs Company’s philanthropic activities today focus on contributing to programs that support people, promote educational opportunities, and help underserved communities. Our commitment to corporate citizenship also extends to providing high-quality products and services that are socially sound and conducting our business in an environmentally responsible manner.


Family Giving Trees

For the past 7 years, we've helped in both outreach activities to lower-income families in Silicon Valley.

  • In late summer, The Family Giving Tree’s annual Back-to-School drive starts with the goal of closing the educational gap for in-need K-12 students. We’ve helped fund and supply new backpacks full of essential, grade-appropriate school items delivered to Bay Area students.
  • For the holidays, employees helped the Family Giving Tree’s Holiday Wish drive by sorting, wrapping and preparing wishes for distribution.

Sunnyvale Community Services

Since 2015, our employees have volunteered to help collect, sort, and distribute food to those in need. Sunnyvale Community Services provides emergency food and financial assistance to low-income, hard-working families who are struggling with the high cost of living in Silicon Valley.


De Buurtboerderij – Community Center in the Netherlands

We had a team bonding event in De Buurtboerderij, a community center run by volunteers and customers of De Regenboog Groep. They have helped the homeless, addicts and people with psychological problems for over 40 years!

For example, De Buurtboerderij offers people located close to the labor markets a safe and empowering work environment to gain experience and build self-confidence. An added bonus, the vegetables on the menu come from the surrounding gardens, roamed by its own flock of sheep!


Secours Populaire – Tutoring program in France

We donated 200 OPP red pens to a charity called Secours Populaire that has tutoring program for kids and a program for adults to fight against illiteracy.


Made in the Streets – Kenya Nonprofit

We donated assessments to Made in the Streets for a leadership development program conducted in Nairobi. Made in the Streets is a ministry in Nairobi, Kenya that helps children receive a safe haven, food, shelter, education and training in a vocational skill.
